FACT: Root canals don't actually have to be painful! Although often synonymous with and symbolic of unpleasant dental procedures, if you are in the right hands, the stereotype doesn't hold true.
Difficult root canals should be performed by a specialist - an Endodontist. Root canal treatment and retreatments that are less complex- can be performed by a skilled General Dentist.
Sometimes an old root canal site can become compromised over time. Retreatment involves the removal of the old root canal fill to allow access to inflamed or infected areas. Once the filling is removed, your dentist cleans the exposed canals and then refills them again.
